Friday - Work. Found out Downwood's Grandma C died. Everyone very sad.
Saturday - Slept in a little bit. Did an art project with Emi and Ox, then got to mop the kitchen to clean up all the paint. In the evening, we got dressed up and Au and her family came down to hang with our kiddos so we could go out to a grownup dinner. The kiddos all seem to have behaved, the house was still standing, and dinner was very, very delicious.
I also got to try out my new Espionage Cosmetics nail wraps. Totally cool and amazing.
Sunday - Downwood let me sleep in a very long time, which was lovely. I build up a sleep debt during the week and am usually out of the house before more than one or two of the rest of them are moving around. Usually Downwood makes it out to his computer before I leave, but hasn't had enough coffee yet to really be considered "awake".
Downwood took the kids to the Big Train Show up in town. While they were gone, I took advantage of a quiet house. I applied henna to the roots of my hair, played a little GW2, got some laundry started, did some dishes and made several cups of tea.
Then Downwood's mom called. Now, I COMPLETELY lucked out in the In-Laws Lottery. Both Downwood's parents are wonderfully nice people who love me and love their grandbabies. The rest of his family is pretty darn cool, too. So I talked to my MiL. She mentioned that they were scheduled to get a bunch of snow and ice on Monday, so if at all possible, could we try to drive down today?
Okay.
I checked our weather. Even more snow. Well crap.
I rinsed the henna from my hair and started packing. When Downwood and the kids got back from the train show (it was ZOMG!AMAZING), I was on my work email, rescheduling meetings, and sending out-of-office notifications. We got everything packed up and the kids thrown in the car. We had to go the long way, since I desperately needed med refills, then headed down.
We got there, gave hugs, unloaded, gave very belated xmas presents, and rested.
Monday - Emi woke up coughing and feverish. She snuggled with me for a bit and got hotter. We ended up taking her to the Prompt Care down the street where they quickly (and with utterly fabulous customer service) diagnosed her with Influenza A. Since we got her in early enough, she could get a Rx for Tamiflu. I dropped her and Grandma off at home and went to CVS to get the Rx, yet another coffee (my MiL makes terribly weak coffee), and some OTC meds.
Emi perked up after getting some Tylenol to take down her fever. We had a reasonably quiet day, full of building forts, reading books, trying to get the kiddos to nap (unsuccessful), and Downwood went to get his hair cut.
In the evening, after giving the nerdlings a bath, Downwood and I went out for dinner and left the munchkins with Grandma.
Tuesday - Funeral day. Since Emi's dx meant she should stay home and Ox was feeling kind of puny, I stayed at my MiL's house with the kiddos while she and Downwood went to the funeral. It was rough, mostly since we were all tired, not in our routine, and not in our own space. They got back, we gave hugs, we got the car loaded, and then came home.
Grandma C was a neat lady. She wore all-over sequins - silver, white, and lime green - to her 90th birthday party. She loved her kids, even when they were being pills (even when they were grown-up pills). She loved her grandkids. She loved her great-grandkids. She survived 2 husbands and 1 world war. She went out of her way to make her non-family feel welcome. I'm going to miss her.
Today - I'm at work. I have a headache. Ox woke up with a super high fever and coughing, so Downwood dropped Emi off at my office over lunch while he took Ox to the doctor. To no one's surprise, he also has Influenza A. Emi had a good time being my "assistant" and we went and filled up a salad box for her lunch.
I'm worried about the snow and ice forecast for tomorrow. I'm kind of glad that New(er) Dancer Night got postponed, since the funeral meant I didn't have a chance to finalize music and make sure costume fit and stuff. I'm very tired and am afraid that I'm getting sick, too. Boo.
But I look fabulous today. I have a new dress and cool boots. I have shiny red hair. It's going to be okay.
