I'm brain dead today, so I made myself a work mocha: one packet of hot chocolate, fill mug with coffee, and stir.

There are bubbles on the top of the liquid in my cup. The bubbles have a metallic rainbow sheen to them that looks more like soap than food. This disturbs me.

This does not, however, prevent me from drinking it. Need caffeine. Need sugar.

Downwood and I got back from our family holidays Sunday afternoon, unpacked the car, then headed out to help celebrate Bex's birthday. It was a good time and we got to see some friends whose schedules all too rarely intersect with ours.

Monday, we had an appointment with my psychiatrist to talk about meds, how we're going to change them, things for the both of us to watch out for as the sprog continues to grow and my body continues to do weird things to me, and get some questions answered. Monday evening, right as we were sitting down to dinner, we got the call that Leena's contractions had started and they'd like us to come over to help.

After some hours, it was pretty clear that the baby was going to take its time, so we went home to get some sleep. I was about to fall over (damn first trimester) and Downwood wanted to make sure that I rested. Tuesday morning at 7:45, we got the call that they were heading to the hospital and we should meet them there.

At 1, I had Downwood call my doctor's office to reschedule my appointment for 1:30 due to the fact that Sophie was just about ready to be born. She officially arrived at 1:28 and was 6 lb 0 oz and 19.75 inches long. She has a full head of dark hair, dark eyebrows, was looking around at everything, is totally cute, and so very precious. She started nursing right away like a champ and stole the hearts of her very proud papa and exhausted mama.

Val, who'd stayed up all night with Leena, counting her contractions and helping her through the rough spots, went home to sleep. Downwood and I grabbed a late lunch at Famous Dave's and got a family-sized meal to go and put it in the new parents' fridge so that they don't have to worry about cooking in the near future. We also tidied up the house a tad so that they can come home to a clean place.

After running errand and a long bath, we went out to dinner with the Iowa State/Pittsburgh crew. It was delicious and fun. We then grabbed Val and returned for backrubs and the playing of Worms on the Wii. I curled up on the couch and dozed through the whole thing.

This morning, I've started cinnamon rolls, made bacon and eggs, spiked the coffees of Downwood and Val, and am considering going back for another nap. The last couple days have blurred together somewhat, but it's been so very much worth it. I really want to hold Sophie tomorrow when they come home, but for now I'm going to try to steal some time today to sack out and regain some of my very depleted energy.

This morning was very lazy. We had coffee, kiwi, and french toast. I played one of my silly little computer games for a while and got cleaned up right as the Illinois debacle was starting. That's when I started.

I did many loads of laundry, including several sets of spare sheets (some of which are for bed sizes that we don't own). I also cleaned the living room and got a good start on the dining room. Taking advice from my new time management system, I picked an area and only handled each object once - pitch it or put it where it belongs, but don't just set it down to "deal with later".

I only have one area left in the living room that needs to be demolished. The carpet still looks bad, but since the vacuum cleaner decided to give up the ghost on us, we'll be dealing with that later. My desk/painting station has been completely excavated and is just about ready to be used.

I need to at least sweep the linoleum, if not totally mop it. I also have a fair amount of cleaning to do in the kitchen, bathroom, and the back corner of the dining room. But I got to watch most of the Badger game - again, we sucked in the first half and came out smoking hot in the second - and feel pretty darn accomplished. I'm also exhausted, but don't feel quite so overwhelmed and discombobulated by the disharmony of my living space. Seriously, the change in here is very reassuring and comforting to me.

Now, I think I'll go fall over. My grocery list for the next week is almost done, I know what I need to do to make my latent OCD happy, and I'm proud of what I've done. Whew.
